Coral Reefs Postcard Rate First Class Stamps

The existence of some of nature's most vulnerable species is threatened by the competing needs of man and wildlife. The Wildlife Without Borders program, supported by the Save Vanishing Species stamp, helps fund conservation efforts both domestically and internationally. Grants are issued to five multinational groups working to protect elephants, rhinoceros, tigers, marine turtles, and great apes. The Amur tiger is featured on the semi-postal stamp, also known as the Siberian tiger, which once roamed Western and Central Asia. Due to the demand for their organs and bones in Asian medicine, as well as their lush pelts, Amur tigers became prime targets for poachers. Throughout the 20th century, the Amur tiger disappeared from several nations, leading to a near extinction of the wild population in the region. Today, only a small number are left in the wild. By collaborating with conservation organizations worldwide, the United States is able to transcend borders in order to combat the risk of extinction for these species.
